We will explore Toy Theatre, Pop-Ups, Flexagons and ‘Good Old-Fashioned Storytelling’ to create new and interesting forms of visual theatre

Table-top animal puppets

An introductory workshop, on Zoom, to my way of making Table-top animal puppets. Fun, simple and quick. Once you’ve developed the basic skills & design concept, you’ll be off and running making any animals you like for your next Table-top production.

Set design for puppet theatre

Practical solutions to your puppet set design issues for when you get stuck… and let’s face it, at times, we all get stuck.
Storage, transportation, weight are all issues that puppeteers deal with daily.

Needle sculpting heads for beginners

Construction of puppet heads and hands, utilizing needle sculpting techniques to create characters.
A faster and cleaner technique than papier-mâché, clay, or other traditional puppet manufacturing methods.

Basic sewing skills are essential.

Movement for meaning for puppetry

This course is to assist with audience understanding of puppet movements irrespective of puppet style.
(I.E Marrienette, Bunraku, Table-top, Rod, or Glove puppets.)

By analytically breaking down physical movement, recreating it in our own bodies, we are then more able to transfer it into puppet movements.

THE FACILITATOR

Peter Graduated from the University of Plymouth (U.K) as a mature student with a BA Honours in Theatre Arts & Performance / Design Arts. Since immigrating to South Africa, he has worked extensively in the theatre as an Actor / Ex-Dancer / Director / Set & Costume Designer / Choreographer / Puppeteer / Puppet Maker / Mask Maker & Mime.
